I didn’t feel like I covered enough FAQs in the last post. For those who are new to uPVC conservatories there can be a lot of questions running around in your mind.

What are uPVC Conservatories anyway?

I have written a separate article on this topic. Click the link below to follow.

What are uPVC Conservatories?

Will I need a building permit?

In most cases yes. If you are thinking of getting a uPVC conservatory consult your local council about what type of permit is required. Often basic information can be found on their website. The permit will depend on the size and materials of your conservatory.

What direction should my conservatory face?

I have always found this a slightly amusing question seeing that most houses only have 2 exiting doors over which to build a conservatory and most people tend to choose the back door. Unless you build a rare stand-alone conservatory, which you can of course face in any direction.

In general terms the best direction to face the majority of windows is south, this will give you great sun all day and year round. Of course if you live in the southern hemisphere a north facing conservatory is ideal. It is also worth looking into buying some conservatory blinds or shades to keep it cool during the hot summer months.

I don’t think I can afford one, but I would really like one installed on my property. What are my options?

UPVC conservatories can be expensive, usually starting from a few thousand and skyrocketing up. I suggest looking at buying a DIY conservatory. You can save a lot of money from the labor costs and still end up with a great looking uPVC conservatory.

Check out some DIY options like this site here.

How do I hang curtains or blinds in a uPVC Conservatory?

This largely depends on the shape of your conservatory. If you have space above your windows simply measure out and drill holes along the uPVC beams. Then screw in with self tapping screws. If you have windows all the way to the ceiling you will need to go buy some plaster fixings like these here to mount you curtains or blinds on.

Hope these help you out with buying and caring for your uPVC conservatories. Feel free to pop any questions at the bottom of the page.

Are you looking for a way to add on to your living space without spending a lot of money or having to get special permission to do so? A uPVC Conservatory will give you a pocket friendly efficient solution that you will love. Everyone is probably familiar with the durable qualities of PVC, but may be in question as to what the U means. The U in uPVC means that there are no softeners in the PVC. This means that any structure made from this material will last for a much longer period of time. There are a lot of advantages that uPVC conservatories have over ones that are made of wood.

To begin with a uPVC conservatory is a very low maintenance structure. You will be able to easily clean your conservatory by only using soap and water instead of varnishing it like you have to with wooden structures. For best results you may not want to use any solvent based or abrasive cleaners on your conservatory.

Another benefit that uPVC conservatories have is the ability to maintain a great look for a long time. When a wooden structure is exposed to sunlight day after day it starts to become chipped and faded. The color is not as great as it was the day that you installed it. The opposite is true with a uPVC conservatory. No matter how much sun it is exposed to it will give you the same great look for a very long time to come.

You may also want to know about the benefit of uPVC double glazing. This has to do with the windows. Most of the heat in a home is lost through single pane windows that let the heat escape. When you decide to go with a double glazed conservatory you will be able to keep more of your heat and air inside the room that you need it for instead of letting it escape. This is where you will have two window panes that are separated by a thin gap of air. That means you will have a better seal in your conservatory.

There are a lot of other great benefits to having a uPVC conservatory. If you are looking for a structure that will allow you to easily add on to your house and provide a lot of advantages uPVC conservatories may be just what you need. This low maintenance structure will give your home a great look for many years to come.

Have you been thinking about purchasing a uPVC conservatory? Your mind is probably filled with questions that you need answers to prior to purchasing uPVC conservatories. If you would like answers on what size conservatory you will need, where you should locate your conservatory, or if your conservatory will fit into the space that you have available for it you will find the answers here. These answers will help you to get on your way to finding the perfect conservatory for your home.

How big of a conservatory do I need for my home?

The size of a conservatory that is needed will depend on the amount of space you have available. You should get the biggest one that you can afford, but you should also make sure that it fits into the space that you have for it to go in to. If you are replacing a conservatory that you already have then you may want to go with the same size if that size works for you. If you want to choose a larger size and can both afford it and have the space for it then you can do it. There are no particular size limitations for a uPVC conservatory.

Where do I need to put my conservatory?

Depending on which type of benefits you would like to get from your conservatory you may want to consider which direction you face it. You will need to have more ventilation for a conservatory that faces either south or west. However, if you choose to face your conservatory either north or east you will need to have more heating. If you want your conservatory to be warm you will want to face it south. If you face it west you will experience more sun in the evenings. If you want to enjoy breakfast in your conservatory you will want to face it east for more sun in the mornings. You will find a more sheltered conservatory by facing it north.

Is the Space I Have Available Sufficient for my new Conservatory?

The size of the uPVC conservatory will depend on the space you have available. This means that you will want to take into account the length and height of your house before having a conservatory installed. You will want to allow space for the gutter overhang. You want to be sure that the ceiling on your conservatory will clear the bottom of the gutter on the outside of your home. You also want to account for any external objects along the length of your home. You can then match your measurements up with the conservatory that you are interested in.

UPVC conservatories in the UK are very popular and almost no home looks complete without one. There are several other questions that you may have about purchasing a uPVC conservatory. You should write those questions down so that you will have all of the answers you need for purchasing your new conservatory.

UPVC conservatories are quite popular in the UK. Perhaps this is due to colder weather or simply large blocks of land. In the USA and Canada they are more commonly referred to as ‘sunrooms’.

In essence conservatories provide you with an additional room which combines your outdoor view with protection from the weather elements. A more technically correct phrase is a ‘vinyl-framed structure with a pitched roof’. This allows you to enjoy the outdoors while staying warm and dry, which is very popular in damper climates. Most conservatories are lean to conservatories, which means, the extra room attaches to one of the side of the house. However it is possible to buy stand alone conservatories to sit in your backyard.

The term uPVC stands for ‘unplasticised Poly Vinyl Chloride’. UPVC is growing in popularity due to it being able to be heated and reformed so easily. This makes it great for forming unique window frames and allowing for double glazing. It is offered as a superior product to wood and metal which tend to rot, rust and decay over time. Occasionally, uPVC is reinforced with aluminum when used in longer beams. If you still prefer a wooden feel, you can get uPVC reinforced windows with a wooden frame.

Another addition to improve the look of your uPVC conservatory are dwarf walls. These short walls give the conservatory a more permanent look and help blend it into the rest of your house. Larger walls can also be put in place to protect the conservatory from sun during certain times of the day or to add privacy to your new sunroom.

The great thing about getting a uPVC conservatory is that once it is installed it has added a permanent room to your house that will last for many, many years.

Is it time to replace a set of double doors? Or are you looking at furnishing a new house? UPVC French doors are simply awesome for creating a great looking home. Installing a pair as my uPVC back door has enabled me to unite my back deck and room into a fantastic entertainment area. I have also set up a porch awning to give me sun protection through the hot days.

On top of that, the fact that the door are made from uPVC means that you will get long lasting quality. In case you don’t know, uPVC is a type of vinyl that is used to create window frames and reinforce glass. Due to the fact it is a vinyl and not wood you do not have to worry about rotting, staining or splintering. Also because it is not metal you will not have to worry about rust and the door will be quite light in comparison.

So now you know the benefits of uPVC French doors. Now before you go out and buy a set of French doors, have a look through the rest of this article for some great tips on what to look for in your purchase.

Firstly, choose your design carefully. Take measurements of the existing door or gap and then decide whether you want 2 doors or 1 door with a fixed panel. You can have doorways opened to become a larger space, but to save money it’s best to go for the same size.

Secondly, buy from a good supplier (Rehau, Veka, Synseal or Spectus). The quality of the French door determines the look and the life of your door. Ask a salesman or do some research on the internet to determine which product you like and is trusted.

Lastly, buying uPVC French doors will add a lot value to your home, however, you want to ensure that the doors are installed correctly by trained professionals. There is nothing worse than a crookedly hung door that gets stuck or doesn’t close properly. It is also important that the door is secure and that the locking mechanism catches properly.

I hope these tips make it easier when you decide to buy some new uPVC French doors. I hope you end up with doors that look great and serve you a lifetime. For anymore information, don’t hesitate to contact me in the comments or via the ‘contact me’ page.
