More uPVC Conservatory FAQs

uPVC Conservatories | By: Robert

I didn’t feel like I covered enough FAQs in the last post. For those who are new to uPVC conservatories there can be a lot of questions running around in your mind.

What are uPVC Conservatories anyway?

I have written a separate article on this topic. Click the link below to follow.

What are uPVC Conservatories?

Will I need a building permit?

In most cases yes. If you are thinking of getting a uPVC conservatory consult your local council about what type of permit is required. Often basic information can be found on their website. The permit will depend on the size and materials of your conservatory.

What direction should my conservatory face?

I have always found this a slightly amusing question seeing that most houses only have 2 exiting doors over which to build a conservatory and most people tend to choose the back door. Unless you build a rare stand-alone conservatory, which you can of course face in any direction.

In general terms the best direction to face the majority of windows is south, this will give you great sun all day and year round. Of course if you live in the southern hemisphere a north facing conservatory is ideal. It is also worth looking into buying some conservatory blinds or shades to keep it cool during the hot summer months.

I don’t think I can afford one, but I would really like one installed on my property. What are my options?

How Not To Assembly Your DIY ConservatoryUPVC conservatories can be expensive, usually starting from a few thousand and skyrocketing up. I suggest looking at buying a DIY conservatory. You can save a lot of money from the labor costs and still end up with a great looking uPVC conservatory.

Check out some DIY options like this site here.

How do I hang curtains or blinds in a uPVC Conservatory?

This largely depends on the shape of your conservatory. If you have space above your windows simply measure out and drill holes along the uPVC beams. Then screw in with self tapping screws. If you have windows all the way to the ceiling you will need to go buy some plaster fixings like these here to mount you curtains or blinds on.

Hope these help you out with buying and caring for your uPVC conservatories. Feel free to pop any questions at the bottom of the page.
